I began my creative endeavors at an early age drawing, painting beads batiking T-shirts and sewing.
Later when choosing a college in my home town Cleveland, Cooper school of art offered BA in Fashion Illustration. With my love of drawing, fashion and textile design, it seemed like a perfect fit!
I graduated with a Fashion Illustration degree and a minor in graphic design.
Thinking I could get plenty of work illustrating women, men and all age groups in the latest fashion trends which included cosmetics, intimate apparel, shoes and pretty much everything for printing in periodicles, department stores promotions, brochures and clothing manufacturers etc… I would be headed for an exciting career in fashion illustration. SCREECHING HALT!!!!
When I graduated in 1980 Fashion photography was taking hold and unfortunately illustration was becoming cost prohibitive and my prospects were narrowing down as photographers were getting the work.
When I move to New York, there was some illustration still needed for flat sketches of garments and editorial illustration for the buying offices and some freelance work at Women’s Wear Daily magazine left.
I needed to leap to to textile design and found much satisfaction with that but I’ve missed fashion illustration ever since, but now it’s coming back!
Not so much for practical reasons but for the artistic expression of illustrating a figure with flair and elegance! Adorning apparel, home furnishings and showing up at parties as a fashion sketcher depicting the party goers in and as something memorable to take home and display on their wall.
This Illustration was painted directly on a silk teeshirt.
Later added elements of silk flowers, netting and a few jewels around her wrist.
Im at your service as a Fashion Sketcher for parties and events as well as custom design and illustration commissions.
